Balmain has collaborated with Cher to launch The Balmain Blaze, a new leather bag inspired by the brand's trailblazing superpower. Cher is reimagined as a futuristic goddess in a new campaign video, perched high atop a throne while wearing the same form-fitting catsuit she wore during Paris Fashion Week in September when she walked Balmain's spring 2023 runway show. "All of us invent ourselves — some of us just have more imagination than others," she said in a voiceover.
The new handbag is inspired by the protective armour worn by superheroes. The silhouette has exposed hardware, strong colour and texture contrasts, and a modern-Baroque aesthetic. The design features couture-inspired embellishments as well as gleaming hardware. Rousteing's intention was to design an eye-catching accessory.
"More than anything else, I wanted the Blaze to be a bag that stood out," Rousteing said in a release. "As I described to my team, I envisioned these bags as vital components of the most daring entrances." These patterns remind me of the stunning shields held by the daring superheroes of my childhood, and I adore the thought of our Balmain Blaze delivering a powerful sense of invincibility as the ideal finishing touch to any ensemble."
