Dakota Johnson has a new ad campaign with Gucci. She's rocking a ton of their gear, including animal skin handbags. PETA isn't happy about it ... not at all. They say it's odd, since she's outspoken on a lot of social issues.

The actress just debuted as an official ambassador for the high-end clothing company, and she recently starred in a new commercial showcasing a tonne of their products. But, of course, there are other photoshoots where DJ is dressed entirely in Gucci. She’s all in, then.

According to PETA, the issue is that a few of the Gucci handbags Dakota is promoting here are produced with natural animal skins, notably python and crocodile. Gucci isn’t concealing anything either; its website proudly states that the hides are authentic.

That doesn’t sit well with the animal rights organisation, and it informed Dakota of this in a detailed but occasionally critical letter to her team.

PETA Calls Out Dakota Johnson

According to the letter, which TMZ acquired, PETA finds it strange that Dakota is so outspoken about social issues yet continues to flaunt Gucci’s python and crocodile handbags, which range in price from $3,100 to $31,000.

They are correct; she frequently shares advocacy content on Instagram for causes like BLM, women’s rights, and many more.

In response, PETA questions her about her concern for the animals killed for the bags and tells her that hunters and poachers go to great efforts to collect the skins, including torturing and mutilating them while they are still alive.

According to PETA, the killing of these snakes is so terrible that it would be against the law to purchase the products you are promoting in California because their sale is prohibited. Gucci makes that statement eYet, even on the web pages for a few of these handbags.

In conclusion, PETA is urging Dakota to strongly reconsider her affiliation with Gucci and condemn the fashion house’s usage of exotic animal skins, especially in light of the availability of vegan alternatives.

Since Dakota’s famous grandmother, Tippi Hedren, was a strong supporter of animal preservation and DJ has talked highly of her work, it appears that she feels that speaking up on animal rights concerns is a justifiable cause.

We have contacted Dakota’s representatives for comment, but they have not yet responded.
