The handbag selection at New York Fashion Week was by far the main event. From classic shapes by the likes of Celine, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel to more on-trend silhouettes and accents. Scroll down to see which ones made the biggest impact this season.
During fashion week in New York (I do, in fact, live here, although getting lost is my specialty), I make it a point every season to spy out the great pieces that everyone is wearing, specifically looking for ones that pop up again and again. There were a few repeats in the clothing department, with big-ticket pieces like scarf coats, damaged leather jackets, long skirts, and anything else that felt ballet-inspired. The handbag selection, on the other hand, was by far the primary attraction.
During New York Fashion Week, guests introduced a wide range of bags, from classic shapes by Celine, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel to more on-trend silhouettes and accents like bowlers, metallics, and, perhaps most prominently, surrealist styles. Given the length of the handbag moments this season, I took it upon myself to narrow down the trends I saw the most outside of seven days of nonstop shows, presentations, and previews this week to the six that feel the most current and buzzy. Scroll down to see which ones made the most of an impression this season.
Super Cool Handbags From Fashion Week
Bags that do not adapt to your needs are not appropriate during fashion week. Almost every stop in your day leaves you with another knickknack of some kind, which means that your handbag of choice needs to allow for new additions on top of all the essentials fashion week requires (e.g., hand sanitizer, portable chargers, snacks, and, in the case of this season, Rhode’s Peptide Lip Treatment), and only an unstructured bag will do. Slouchy, anti-structure bags are a dime a dozen these days, due to brands like Khaite, Ree Projects, Bottega Veneta, and others.

One of the year’s most rewarding realisations has been the strength of Anthropologie’s handbag assortment this season.

It’s the subtle bow for me.

My Slack chats center on this bag a little bit too much.
Charles & Keith is an excellent name for durable and timeless accessories that endure a long time and are of high quality. From traditional tan totes to sparkly baguettes, and from workday mules to neon heels, their assortment has something for every mood and occasion.
