A royal favourite from the 1990s has returned. The French fashion brand revealed today that Princess Diana's blue satin tiny "Lady Dior" purse, which she carried to the 1996 Met Gala, will be reintroduced for a limited edition.
The bag, which costs €5,000 (approximately $5,180) and is only available in Dior boutiques, was designed specifically for the late Princess of Wales to carry to her one-and-only Met Gala appearance, which was themed to honour Christian Dior's impact on fashion.
The princess wore a navy slip dress with lace trim designed by John Galliano, Dior's newly appointed creative director at the time, and carried a blue satin bag designed as a smaller version of her favoured black quilted Dior bag — but the story doesn't end there.
According to Dior, Princess Diana fell in love with the design after the First Lady of France at the time, Madame Bernadette Chirac, gave her a "Chouchou" bag in 1995. After she was pictured wearing the purse on several occasions, the design brand christened it the "Lady Dior" in honour of Lady Diana.
The iconic bag has been a part of Dior's history for decades and is available in a variety of colours and sizes, including the "Mini" style ($5,300), Diana's original medium bag ($6,100), and a small crossbody with a fun, personalised strap ($5,600).
