Handbag Trends for Winter 2022: Start Shopping Now

02 OCT 22

When a new season, such as fall, approaches, it's natural to consider swapping out your swimwear for base layers or your kitten heels for knee-high boots. While you may not hurry out to change your purse as soon as the temperature rises to 60 degrees, there are plenty of winter 2022 bag trends to consider.

"I think one of the largest seasonal shifts will be in textures and general style and usage of handbags," says Cassandra Dittmer, a sustainability-first stylist. "Trends will transition away from rattans and toward mixed media, chunkier hardware, fake furs and shearlings, and larger size and architecture."

Handbag trends change at a slower pace, making them excellent investment items. In fact, stylist Seppe Tirabassi says he's most thrilled about twists on current trends, such as the crescent bag and the ever-stylish tiny. Even so, there's a lot to be enthused about. Here are the top ten handbag trends for winter 2022, as well as the precise stylist-approved bags to buy now.

"The crescent bag is wonderful for touring the city and brunch with friends with a nice large coat and boots," Tirabassi says, naming Loewe and Mark Cross as the greatest interpretations of the trend.

"I'm liking the use of quilting, upcycled/recycled, and plant-based materials: everything from cactus leather to Mylo leather is trending for purses," Dittmer adds. Stella McCartney and Santos by Monica, which employs cactus leather, are leading the way.

Mixed media metals and hefty hardware like grommets and studs are back for winter 2022, Dittmer adds, echoing the current '90s comeback. For inspiration, go to Gucci and Balenciaga.
